Selecting files not always possible

Description
It seems there is an issue in selecting files for creating references.
- It does not work when using the search
- It does not work when using the search, selecting a new directory and then trying to select a file
it seems the event for triggering the selection - no matter if using the "import selection" or clicking on the thumbnail is not always fired
