  • Assignee set to Tom Warwick

We require:

Brief from introduction package team

  • what do they want from the screencast,
  • what audience are they aiming it at?
  • what features of the intro package do they want covered
  • any features in particular they want to be highlighted
  • total runtime - do they want a brief summary or a more detailed video.
  • Script writer.
  • In terms of an environment to record in, happy to just to install introduction package at home on local network.

Do we have contact to the introduction package team to get this issue sorted out? Let me know, if I should jump in...

Heyla, that is one of the teams I need to restart. Oliver Hader is AFAIK the one that is most concerned with the IP if only because he creates the packages per release.

  • Status changed from New to Accepted
  • Assignee changed from Tom Warwick to Christian Nölle
Had a short skype session with Oliver Hader, we can boil it down to the following
  • We need two SCs, one for IP package in general (let's call it LTS version) and one for new shiny features, starting with 4.7 (call it Shiny version - FAL, Accessibility asf)
  • The LTS SC is not aiming to be a documentation in the narrow sense of the word, but more a compact featurette of the IP and TYPO3 as a product
  • The Shiny SC should be a compact featurette of the newest features of T3 and the IP
  • Due to the nature, we could try and go more "promotional" with the language used.

One goal would be to get the LTS SC on the road by the end of April, just in time to accompanying the release of 4.7, this is the important part. The Shiny SC would be nice to have as well at that time, but no focus on that.

I will go and write a short abstract of the main features, we would like to show. Oliver will review this before we start with a proper script.

Added first draft

Updated by Daniela Laabs about 1 year ago

The first draft looks good, I have only a few tiny suggestions and questions:
  • personally I would show the installation with the wizard; if it's only a few very quick steps this would definitely be a pro for TYPO3 and the IP
  • idea for the order: first show FE after the installation to demonstrate how quick users get a working web site, then show BE with explanation of logins, page module and all other (everything not too much in detail as the screencast should only be promotional)
  • Should we also cover questions like: how do I change colors afterwards or structural things? If users ask me about the IP it is often about these things rather than editors' tasks. In order to go not too much in detail, we could just show where to change the CSS, TS, maybe see installed extensions a.s.o. so that users get an overview of all web site components in TYPO3 - or do you think this would be too much for this screencast?

Thx Daniela for your thoughts. Good points, would agree on the first two, have to think about the first one.
Still waiting for the feedback of Oliver Hader and Steffen Ritter.

I am afraid, that I won't make it with the script up to my holiday. It would be great if someone could take over. I would be happy to reenter the stage after those days off. Please feel free to jump in and get the ball rolling!

Ah, nearly forgotten: I got an response from Oliver Hader last week. See below.

Hallo Christian,

sorry für die späte Antwort. Der Draft für ein generelles Introduction
Package ist soweit okay. Neben FAL, was ja nicht in 4.7 integriert

Olly

Which translates roughly to: Draft is okay for the 4.5 SC.
FAL is out, HTML5 and accessibility features are hard to show in his opinion as well.
So we should concentrate on the 4.5 IP SC, which is my conclusion of that.

Got a very initial version of the script - Only covering installation so far...

There is only one thing I would change: "When all went well, you can now switch over to your new website!" ... sounds a bit negative, not as promotional as the beginning of the script (whose promotional language I like). I would just say something like "Now you can already switch over to your new website!" The rest is just fine and seems to have the proper length.

Guess you mean: Now fire up your web browser instead of there is no fire up... ;-)

Fixed that and added the "Explore it!" part. Please comment.

Hi Christian,

maybe at the beginning of "Explore it" there should be a bit more explanation, e.g.:
"...your new website, which is already packed with sample content about TYPO3 and all the things you can do with the cms. Later on, we'll show you how to add your own content to this website, but now let's take a closer look at the examples" or something like that ...?

I think it's good that you don't go too much into detail when showing the single pages. I was wondering if we need it at all or if we rather should pick out two pages, e.g. "Examples" and maybe "Customizing TYPO3"; but I guess mentioning all the pages is not that bad ;-)

There are a few typing errors like "Explorer it" and "Before the dig deeper" (we or you instead?), but I think there's no need to mention this in detail now. I guess it will get corrected while you continue working on the script or at the latest when Tom is proofreading it.
