Description
When a package is released the code is tagged with the version number in the SVN repository.

how about doing it the other way around?
if there is a tag like "Release: v0.1" it will be automatically available as v0.1 in the Package Repository. No "Manual" Release needed...
I may suggest to to probably use git...
