Extbase Barcamp - Anja Leichsenring

We want to organize an Extbase barcamp to promote extbase and get knowhow wider spread. The money is mostly for covering the risk of not getting enough sponsors.

Nice idea. I hope that we can make it real :)

Until now, no Barcamp seemed to need Association Backup. And there are plenty of TYPO3 BarCamps around.
Im pretty sure, there will be an agency, company, of public institutation willingly to cover the risk.

Even an existing camp could have a special track considered for extbase. Therefore I personally do not see the need for this application.

I did not even look in the application, but I would participate to raise awareness, sponsoring and create publications. It should be do-able that way. Barcamps are done with sponsoring only.

IMHO this is another low priority budget. I strongly second Steffen here.

Although I like the idea to have a "TYPO3 Extbase Camp" I totally agree with the previous comments.
A barcamp is per definition a self organized event which is financed completely by sponsors (and entry fees) - see http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcamp
Or the other way round: If there are not enough sponsors - the topic is not sexy enough ;-)

That's wrong. It's supposed to be sponsoring only, but what if - in the end - there is some more money spent then taken? The organizing entity takes that risk ...

Every TYPO3Camp is organized by one or more companies. For a company it is in no means a problem to take the risk of not fully re-financing the camp. Mostly the organizing companies sponsor their own camp to quiet a big amount.

This barcamp is to be organized by the extbase team and without this budget, the team would have to pay for everything which is not re-financed through sponsors. That - of course - won't work.

I agree with you, that this is low prio, and of course we will try to use as few of the money, as possible. Highest goal is to get all the costs covered by sponsors.

RE: Extbase Barcamp - Added by Patrick Lobacher almost 7 years ago

The first TYPO3camps in Munich where organized by 5 people in their spare time. Although a few of them have worked in a company the company itself had nothing to do with the camp. We had 3 good years (with a slight surplus) and one year with a few EUR we had to pay out of our private "fortune" to compensate. It is absolutely possible without any official association sponsoring in my opinion.

Hi,

I allready talked to Anja about this topics.
I like the idea that there is something like a "risk budget" for events to enable new events.
Espacially for this, I think it's not needed.

When we organize our barcamps we start with a very low budget, and if we get more sponsors we plan new things.

So what you need is a location.
Everything else can come later, even food and drinks.

So the way to go:
location
drinks
lunch
t-shirt
breakfast
party

if you have more money, you can spend more for lunch, drinks, breakfast and party if you still have more money
spend it for other events.

If you've less money, cut it
You can make a party and everyone pay for its own drinks

I also like the idea of the "risk budget" for such event. And i guess this application is meant as such.
If the budget will be granted, i'm almost sure it won't be needed in the end.
Also I expect this extbase camp to happen, even if the budget got rejected.

Beside of that i think it would be great if the the event committee had the resources to help to organize such events, e.g. by sharing their experience. Maybe they even can help to find sponsors too.

RE: Extbase Barcamp - Added by Tobias Liebig almost 7 years ago

  • is there already any idea about the "size" of the camp (e.g. number of participants) and where it could happen (city)?
  • how did you calculate the 5000€ or is it just a guess (as it is a backup only)

RE: Extbase Barcamp - Added by Felix Oertel almost 7 years ago

The sum is just a guess ... we will scale the camp to what ever number of people sign up. ;-) In doubt we could just do it in hamburg's congress hall ...

Seriously: The city could be somewhere "in the middle", near Göttingen. Kind of remote but easily reachable by train, because we don't want to spend too much money on location.

I too think, we won't need the money, and of course, if the budget is rejected, the camp will happen anyway. ;-)
