FLOW3 SHOP - Edward Lenssen
Almost every TYPO3 agency sooner of later gets the question to build a smaller of bigger webshop.
For TYPO3 there is no shopping module available which is:
built in Exbase
has easily templating
is easily expandable
Other projects like Magento do have lots of features (whitch will take a huge amount of time to reach) but do have limitation in flexibility, resources and adding additional features.
Goal is to make a shop which is:
easy to implement
easy to maintain
As FLOW3 is the new framework where also Phoenix is built on, it is logical to built this new shop in FLOW3. This will:
give a boost to FLOW3 as a great framework
give a boost to Phoenix because the base for both systems is the same and you can use packages for both systems
need new features / improvements of FLOW3 which will result in a broader, better framework
Our plan is to get a group of TYPO3 companies together to define the roadmap / available resources / ways to achieve the goals.
The shop project will evolve based on actual client cases and agile development.

It is a enthusiastic goal but i think it is not possible to build a well structured and easy expandable shop in TYPO3 extbase or TYPO3 flow for 10000 Euro. I would support the development of an shop but then we need a nice concept. And developing a concept will cover your budget application ...

I don't think that the development of a shop system should be financed by the assocation - even if it is for code sprints...
The association should concentrate on fundings for infrastructure, the base systems, marketing and communication - not extensions...
I'm pretty sure it's easy to team up with agencies which would send their developers on sprints with their own money, if there is a demand for the such a system.

IMHO another shop extension could not even compete to complete shop systems like Magento. I've taken a look at a lot of TYPO3 shop extensions back in the past, but right not even the TYPO3 backend is that straight forward usable for running a shop. Not even to mention additional plugins where you need support of payment or shipping providers.
Right now we are using TYPO3 as it was meant to be - as a eCMS. Right now we connect TYPO3 o Magento for Newsletters and/or for publishing content.
Just my 2 cents of thoughts, running a TYPO3 and Magento agency.

I think some basic extensions, mostly any site is using anyhow, should be considered worth financing. For example news, login, user registration and yes maybe a shop as well. Does not need to compete with Magento, but a simple, straight forward shop system. Compared to other CMS TYPO3 currently lacks in a good solid shopping extension.
True, you can always connect TYPO3 and Magento and with packaging of Phoenix it will be even easier to use, but it is a big overhead (customizing / maintaining) when having a small shop with limited products and features.
So I'd welcome a new shop extension, based on extbase fluid with option to port to Phonix later. Even if budget in that case will only help project coordination, I think it is a good idea and I'd like to contribute to a new shop extension.

Taking my expertise from TYPO3 Commerce in account , you need far more than your budget to build such an extension. TYPO3 is a content management system, you have to extend lot's of TYPO3 internal concepts to make it work for a shop.
Speaking for the overall budget, I do think there are more important Budgets for increasing the communication that needed to be founded. This project could be founded via a kickstarter project or similar.
Speaking for a new shop extension, count me in for the concept work and maybe for more!

I already had similar thoughts.

We just started this project. Simple is that. We use high standards and it it's not "just a shop".
We plan a first delivery halfway January. But I know IT, hopefully we'll manage. I am confident about this.
I cannot reveal any details now, so be patient. No code sprints, every part is well considered.
I want to update via several channels once a week. And of course, if you have questions, please post them.

can you post a link to the forge project, if there is one?
