Grid Elements 2.0 Part 2 - Jo Hasenau

Since we presented grid elements for the first time in 2011 people have been asking a lot, when it's features will make it to the TYPO3 core. So the goal of this code sprint will be to have the major features of the extension implemented into the TYPO3 page module while improving the special features that will still be available via extension.

We are planning to have a fully paid team of up to 8 hand picked developers for the Grid Elements 2.0 Code Sprint in January in the winter wonderland of the Upper Harz. Wages will be paid by a separate crowd funding project that we are going start on startnext.de

We have to meet a certain goal within this fund raising project, otherwise we won’t get any money out of it. So it might happen, that we won’t manage to find enough people and/or money to actually start this first sprint.

This is why we are planning a second variant, that will either be the follow up to the paid code sprint or be the only code sprint at all. It will be just not as long as the paid one, since we have to deal with the fact that people have to attend within their spare time. So we are planning to go for 3 days – Friday to Sunday.

The road map for the sprint is as follows:

The maximum number of people should be 12, since we want to get people into the same location for better socializing and communication and the hotels in the Upper Harz are not that large.

The location will be the Aula of the Technical University of Clausthal - which is the host of one of our TER mirrors BTW.

The actual hard core coding will start on Friday afternoon and will be open end for all 3 days. We want to refactor parts of the code beforehand, so that it already matches the new principles and guidelines of the 6.0 core and we can concentrate on implementing features into the core and improving features of or adding features to the extension.

In case we managed to make the first sprint happen in January, we will concentrate on additional features, improving the look and feel of features we already implemented and bugfixing stuff that might have lead to problems after the first experiences in the real world.

We have decided to go for a voluntary team in the second part, since we want to get more people involved to both spread and improve the principles and ideas of backend layouts and grids.

The sprint will end on Sunday evening. The goal is to offer a feature rich page module with a much better user experience based on the 6.x core.

As explained a bit longer within the other application, these bugdet applications should be completely withdrawn in favour of the crowdfunding project. There already enough money has been requested.

why is this budget still in voting ?
Thought it is completely crowd-funded now with no money needed for codesprints from Assoc...

We collected money for the paid code sprint that is currently happening in Clausthal-Zellerfeld.
The second one will be kind of "default unpaid code sprint" unless there will be money left from the first one.
This again depends on the time developers will have spent to finish the tasks we have to deliver until Januaray 31st.

So currently we are expecting it to be a usual code sprint without crowd funded money.
