Open Source Licenses Taskforce - Olivier Dobberkau

The use of open source licenses can be tricky. This project aims to clarify the current state of the used licenses in the different TYPO3 projects and contexts.
It will create a status report of the used licenses and their advantages and disadvantages. Further on the report will collect the most important questions for people involved in the TYPO3 ecosystem.
We will ask for advise from renowned open source specialists to make sure we don't fall in to common pitfalls and ask for guidance on how to deal with different situations.
Additionally we will create a section on to inform about the usage of licenses in action in the TYPO3 projects.

I think it's a good idea to clarify the license situation, since it's kind of fuzzy for many users of TYPO3.

It seems to be obvious that you need legal advice here as well, so is this somehow connected to the "lawyer" application?

Our Idea is to ask the OSI or FSF-Europe for help. This Application is not connected to the lawyer application as this is primarly more about advise and audition by the named open-source organisations.

Will this include a list of all currently used licenses within the TYPO3 CMS and other TYPO3 projects (Flow, Phoenix, ...) and the compatibility to the chooses project license?

Do we really need budget for the Milestone 3? Isn't that something what should be part of the marketing/PR budget?

This will include a 360 view on all aspects of our open-source artifacts. code, documentation, videos, presentation material and so on.

@Volker: Milesstones contain optional position for a broschure from the design team. i would really like to cater here for myself and not be dependant from the marketing team as this is mainly a communications campaign in my eyes.

Thanks for your questions so far. Olivier Dobberkau
