Bug #26529
closedFirefox 4 crashes when opening TYPO3 Backend Login page
0%
Description
I have Firefox 4.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.4 and since several days Firefox crashes immediately when opening the TYPO3 Login page (like http://mydomain.de/typo3 )
This does only happen with TYPO3 4.5.x up to trunk.
Versions below 4.5 are working!
So it seems to be a TYPO3 issue.
I also deactivated all Add-Ons.
Crash-Report can be found here:

Forgot to mention, that it does not crash, when I disable Javascript (as expected)

I guess you can only reproduce this with this installation of Firefox, right?
- Your crash report shows that you have installed some language packs and I guess the standard theme (with the identification "972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd"). Does changing the theme help?
- Do you also have this problem, when you start Firefox in safe mode?
- Might be an idea to create a new profile in Firefox and to test with that profile.

So I tried all these and it still crashes:
- I changed the theme
- I removed 2 language packs (except DE and EN)
- I created a blank new profile
- I started in safe mode
Is there any debug log for firefox?

Apart from the Crash Report (which you already posted) there is the JavaScript console, which logs JS errors. But I don't know if that helps you, when the complete browser crashes...

No the browser crashes very fast and there is no log output. Maybe it's caused by some local misconfiguration?
I think we can wait, until other people confirm the problem, since I have no idea how to debug this anymore...

Yes, I think so. Maybe you can get help in a Firefox forum? Maybe people there are able to give you clues about what can cause this kind of weird behaviour.

So I now figured out, that it was a graphic driver problem. When starting firefox from console it crashes with a segmentation fault, when entering the Login page.
The same response I get when calling fglrxinfo: OpenGL driver with Debian and ATI card ...
Maybe it's related to the fact that Firefox 4 has the WebGL support? But that has to be explicitly enabled...
What I can't understand: Why does this only happen with TYPO3 4.5 Login page?
I tried some complex ExtJS pages - no problems there.
Do we invoke any WebGL commands in the backend?

Does " was a problem" mean that you could fix it?

WebGL in Firefox is enabled by default, if you have a current enough driver installed and if the video card supports it.

I don't know.

I have not heard that TYPO3 4.5 has been optimized to use WebGL. But I don't know if Firefox somehow applies it automatically (assuming that it is enabled).

- Category set to Backend User Interface
- Status changed from New to Needs Feedback
Still valid with the current TYPO3 core and the most recent Firefox (4.x is out of support AFAIK).

Is that a question or a bug confirmation? (Not sure since you changed status to "Needs feedback")

I didn't get FF to crash and FF 4.x is very old, so can we close this issue?
Updated by Nico de Haen almost 11 years ago
Yes please close it! Thanks for cleaning up!

THk for the great job on TYPO3 ! ;)
And sorry to re-open it ;-)
Backend still crash with Firefox 26.0 and TYPO3 6.1.5
I am on Ubuntu with NVIDIA chipset
A temporary solution :
In Firefox about:config
,set webgl.disabled
It would be great to fix it, as systematic Firefox crash could be a bad first approach for TYPO3 newcomers ;-)
If I can help in anyway, just tell me,
All the best,
laurent
