Pager do not show correct selected page

Description

After #64420 the pager do not work correctly.
Selecting a page grater then 2nd page shows the 2nd one, page select handling only works for 1st and 2nd page.

Sometimes (playing with the select boxes) also no page number is highlighted in pager. This seams to happen following:

- Select "All tables"
- Select last page
- Select "Pages" (needs to have lesser max pages)
=> No page number is highlighted

Assigning to Andreas as he did the frontend rewrite.
