I don't understand the issue. Please add a how-to-reproduce.

1) Create a page 1 with content elements and a section menu
2) Create a page 2 with page setting "Show Content from Page" = page 1
3) Visit page 2 in FE
Result: you will see an empty section menu

tried with introduction package on master, page 23 (Content Examples -> Menus -> Sections) contains the setup you describe. Created another page, put id 23 into "Show content from page", cleared cache -> section menus are there and filled.

I checked the latest master too and it does not work.
Is the field "Selected Pages[pages]" empty in your section menu? If not, please clear it.

The "Section index of subpages from selected pages" ( [menu_section_pages] ) seems to suffer from the same problem.
