Long Term Support

The next release of TYPO3 CMS, version 6.2, will be the second Long Term Support (LTS) release in the history of TYPO3.

We usually produce a new TYPO3 release every six months. This means a regular release expires faster (as we cannot provide support for so many releases at the same time). That is why we came up with the LTS in 2010. With the Long Term Support version you get three years support on TYPO3.

There is no extra fee for the LTS version; we make our very best work available to everyone on the same free terms. Upgrades to new versions of TYPO3 are and always will be free of charge.

What does it mean for the 6.2 development?

Being an LTS means special consideration during the development. It means to us that we don't want to add any experimental feature which could be an obstacle for the further development of TYPO3 CMS after 6.2.

On the other hand we want to make sure the base is future proof because we will have to "carry it on" for at least three years to come. We have gained some experience with solving this situation during the development of the last LTS (4.5) - which was and still is a huge success - and are able to transpose this knowledge to the development of 6.2 LTS.
