4.5 Beta3 postponed for a couple of days (6 comments)

Added by Ernesto Baschny almost 10 years ago

The release 4.5 team had two meetings this week. Read what was discussed here:

Minutes 22nd and 23th Meeting 2010-12-13 and 2010-12-15

We decided to postpone the release of beta3 for a couple of days. So instead of next week's Wednesday (22nd) as originally planned, Steffen will release beta3 on:

Monday, 27th of December 2010

This will give us some more days to really finish up the open tasks.

Ernesto will be traveling from 21st December until 4th January. Steffen will also take some days off after the release of Beta3. But we'll come back with full power and enthusiasm for the last couple of weeks until the release of 4.5 by the end of January!

After beta2, two weeks for beta3 (4 comments)

Added by Ernesto Baschny almost 10 years ago

TYPO3 4.5.0 beta2 is out, and we only have two weeks left for beta3, which will be release on 22th of December ("Christmas Release"). Ernesto will be on holiday, which is why Steffen Kamper will take care of packaging and the release on that day (or night?).

We hold our weekly meeting on Wednesday this week, read more about it here:

http://forge.typo3.org/projects/typo3v45-projects/wiki/Minutes_21th_Meeting_2010-12-08

Keep on testing beta2 or the current "trunk" and report your findings in our bug trackers. Please note that individual projects have their own trackers. See http://typo3.org/development/bug-fixing/reporting-bugs/ for more information.

4.5 Beta2 is scheduled for this week (6 comments)

Next step in our journey is the release of beta2 on Wednesday according to our Release Plan. This will provide an even more stable feature set. The teams of the projects which were already included in Beta1 have fixed several bugs which were reported since then.

It is crucial on the next phase that even more people do test the new features and actively provide bug reports for them.

The release team meets weekly to discuss the projects and interactions with other teams. The minutes of last weeks meeting was only finished today. Here it is:

Todays meeting also already has its minutes online for your appreciation:

A complete list of all public minutes so far can be read on the starting page (Wiki).

Last sprint until beta1, feature freeze (6 comments)

Added by Ernesto Baschny about 10 years ago

We just published the minutes of our weekly release management meeting: Minutes 18th Meeting 2010-11-15.

Currently all teams and individual contributors are busy working on the last fine tuning for the beta1 release on Wednesday. Lots of new stuff will be committed soon and we can expect major new features with this release (File abstraction layer, new Workspaces module, new Extension Manager, Fluid Widgets, TypoScript additions, ...).

Stay tuned and contact us if you want to help!

Last week before feature freeze: 4.5.0 beta1 is coming (6 comments)

Added by Ernesto Baschny about 10 years ago

We hold the 17th meeting of our release team yesterday, the minutes are already available: Minutes 17th Meeting 2010-11-08

This week is the last week before we declare a "feature freeze", which happens when we release TYPO3 4.5.0 beta1, acording to our Release Plan. Thus the last opportunity for the pending projects to get their code into the core.

After the feature freeze we will basically start the "cleanup" phase, bug fixing and getting the version up to a point where we can proudly declare it as "4.5.0" (in January 2011).

The feature freeze means "no more features", but is not as strict as the phase after the release (where only bug fixes are allowed). We will try to concentrate on the following tasks:

  • Cosmetical chances and enhancements in the new features of the Backend,
  • Performance optimization on all areas (including frontend and backend),
  • Refactoring of new features, where it makes sense,

We need to have a very solid and sound code-base when we release 4.5.0, because we will have to support if for at least 3 years to come, which is why this last phase is very important.

In very exceptional cases the release manager can make an exception for a "new feature" to enter after feature freeze (especially in the phase up to beta3). This will be discussed in our release team meetings on a case by case basis.

TYPO3 4.5 beta1 postponed for one week (6 comments)

Added by Ernesto Baschny about 10 years ago

According to the release plan of the 4.5 release, beta1 would ship next week on November 10th (Wednesday). That would also mark the start of the feature freeze phase.

Because some projects will gain some special focus during the next week (file abstraction layer = FAL will have a code sprint from 11th to 14th) and after discussing several alternatives, the release team decided to postpone the beta1 release for one week.

4.5 beta1 postponed to 17th November

The release plan has been updated accordingly.

The remaining schedule is kept unchanged: This means we will be shipping beta2 two weeks after beta1 (1st December), beta3 three weeks later (22nd December). The release of 4.5.0 final is still scheduled for 26th January 2011.

Several projects will thus gain an extra opportunity to get finished in time for the LTS 4.5 release, e.g.:

  • new Extension Manager
  • ExtJS trees
  • Super search
  • Grid view
  • Link validator
  • SwiftMailer API

If any other project is in the "finishing phase", please get in touch with the release team (Ernesto Baschny and Steffen Kamper) so that we can consider giving them extra attention.

TYPO3 4.5 alpha3 was released (6 comments)

Added by Ernesto Baschny about 10 years ago

This week, the TYPO3 community released the third alpha version of TYPO3 4.5.

For details about the release and the current progress, please read up on TYPO3 4.5.0alpha3.

We ship an Introduction Package with this third alpha release which allows people to test the new features right away. You can of course also opt to upgrade an existing installation to the new 4.5 alpha3 version, but keep in mind that this is still a snapshot of our development so far, and more changes and fixes will be included in further releases.

This is the last snapshot before our feature freeze, which will happen with the next release (beta1). During the next three weeks we expect major improvements to be included in our core. beta1 is scheduled for 10th of November.

You can download the Alpha packages from:

Release team meeting minutes are now online in the wiki (6 comments)

Added by Ernesto Baschny about 10 years ago

Starting from now, we will also be publishing our weekly meeting minutes on the wiki in this projects forge. This way, you are now able to link to the minutes, tweet or share it, or just read them in your favorite browser.

Our weekly meetings is what makes our release 4.5 project go on with so much energy. We discuss what was done in the previous week, share information about other meetings that took place (e.g. with project teams), potential problems, strategies for the week to come and other release and core related issues.

The last two meetings, which have already been published throught the mailing lists, have been added to the wiki already:

We will continue posting the minutes to the typo3.projects.v4 mailing list, which will still be the central place for anyone interested to comment or ask questions about certain topics. Feel free to participate and thanks for your help!
