That would be great to have an Install tool with tabs instead of those long pages.
There's already some kind of separation just by the arrays(GFX, SYS,EXT,...
It's also a bit strange that the "Basic configuration" has information from the "All configuration". [GFX][im_path_lzw] for example.

Steffen made a nice patch, which displays a section called "Sections" in that long page (see #22623). That way you can always jump to the beginning of the sections easily.
That is another solution than the one proposed by you, Patrick, but I think the usability improvement is comparable.
