Description

Recently I had an issue with page cache. Some of insertion queries took about 40 seconds to perform, flooded slow query log and created lockups for the whole server. Pages are big, config section is big too and there are lots of user group combinations, which creates a lot of entries in the cache.

I found an article:http://www.mysqlperformanceblog.com/2008/01/11/mysql-blob-compression-performance-benefits/ in the MySQL Performance Blog abot BLOB performance with MySQL and InnoDB.

Next I added compression to the cache and magically situation started to improve. Now I have no lock ups.

Server set up is ok, I am experienced in running high traffic web sites. The problem was exactly with using a lot of data with BLOB columns in InnoDB tables.

I suggest to turn on compression for the page and TS cache by default. This would reduce the problem described in that blog article.
