Description
Since Typo3 6.* I have to permit the parent pages for editors too, otherwise the editor wouldn't see it in page tree.
E.g.:
- Home
-- Company
-- Team
--- Member John
If the editor should only see the page "Member John" I have to unlock "Home" and "Team" too.
In Typo3 4.5.* it is possible to show only selected pages.

I cannot reproduce this. I frequently assign pages to editors that are deep inside the pagetree. They only see their own mount.
Do you really need to remove the access via the access module? Working only in your mount is enforced.
