Why not remove ExtJS too? There is very little ExtJS knowledge in the community and I don't think there was any response from the Sencha folks during the ExtJS4 integration problems.
It will be big task (huge maybe), but it would be very visible for a major version.

i doubt it is possible to remove extjs until next version, so lets stick with to a plan which is doable, introduce jquery and remove prototype and then it can be thought of moving part by part to jquery with extjs stuff

extJs migration could be done in a separate branch... it's worth a try at least

true, but seperate issue ;)

as some gui parts and extensions rely on extjs, i would not completly remove it for now. - anyway different issue.

What's the status of the jquery integration? - has somebody talked to the t3jquery gui? - I think his extension can be used as basement, as it has very nice features, which can be integrated into the core (which would lead into a perhaps t3jquery compatible integration) ...
