in 4.x you could specify a folder in the filelist plugin.

path: fileadmin/whatever

this pathes are converted to filecollections of type static, with empty folder field.

I would expect type: folder and the path should be "whatever" without fileadmin.

Be aware, that is was also possible to use all the stuff defined in the next link in the path field, so the pathes may have quite some options appended:
