Mandatory fields only recognisable visually and after validation errors

Description
Mandatory fields can only be recognized visually and only after an error has occurred. These are marked with an exclamation mark, which has no structural alternative. To make matters worse, the exclamation mark displays two different pieces of information (affected tab and affected field).

However you do get an "info" button on the top right hand panel that shows the fields which failed validation, See screenshot...?

especially that the popup indicates exclamation marks that are not visible to the screen reader
