Description
Windows has a problem where windowed controls (such as a select box, iframes, ActiveX objects) are on a higher layer than DHTML menus, thus when you activate a DHTML menu it lays behind window controls. This isn't an issue of z-index, but of how IE/Windows deals with windowed controls.
tmenu_layers.php and gmenu_layers.php need to be patched to compensate for this WIN/IE shortcoming.
Attached is a fixed file, with one minor exception, the menus (as a result of using iframes) a end up being slightly shifted in Mozilla. There would need to be some code added to compensate for this.

Peter Klein has developed a fix that will be in TYPO3 3.8.0 offering a new property ieSelectFix = 1 that can be configured with TypoScript.
