When using a menu/sitemap the page always open in a new browser.
Even when my template Constants contains the following lines :
PAGE_TARGET = _self
styles.sitemap.text.target = _self
The html link is always displayed with the link target="page"

Use the Constant Editor, Category ADVANCED and empty the pageframe object as described or add the following line to your constants:
content.pageFrameObj =

content.pageFrameObj = _self does the trick
documentation around styles.sitemap.text.target should be updated :-)
