It's not possible to insert text after a link without this text becoming a link too, unless you add something after </a> in html-source code.
(This problem only occurs if you use Firefox - if you use MSIE you can escape links by simply pushing the right-arrow-key, it also worked with both browsers in rte-html-area 1.0.0)

This is already corrected in TYPO3core CVS, branch TYPO3_4-0.
