Description

The new backend skin is super cool, but has regressed in several aspects for IE6 users. So as Typo3 4.5 is due to support IE6 I am submitting this bug report even though I beleive myself IE6 should be atomized. The thing is some clients are stuck with it because of their windows network policy, and unfortunately do still use IE6.

So Here is the problem : all backend icons lack transparency in IE6 (see screenshot attached to this issue). It would be nice to fix this with a png hack.

pngfix has been implemented for sprite icons during development of 4.4. As it caused major performance issues, it has been removed again and semi-transparent icons have been replaced with gifs.
For 4.5 the situation hasn't changed at it will be the last release supporting IE6.
TYPO3 in IE6 looks ugly, not only because the icons. It's also not that fast due to the slow JS engine. However, TYPO3 BE is usable in IE6, which has been a requirement for 4.5. Looking good was not the requirement.
