Description

In general going to suggest few things:

1. Typo3 definitely needs new default RTE. Such change could be done in major release (4.0)...

2. HTML-Area is the best RTE for Typo3 we have now. However it still has problems and limitations. The main it's problem is that project itself is dead.

At the same time we have few other open source RTEs available. One of the best is FCKeditor (http://www.fckeditor.net/). It is already better then HTML-Area:
- it has multilingual support;
- more stable;
- better work with tables;
- under heavy development (last release has been published yesterday).

The main problem with it is Typo3 integration. Extension (rte_fck2) has been published, but never updated so it uses pretty old fck. Also (due to author): "is still not very well integrated in TYPO3".

If it would be updated and Typo3 integration improved, it could beat all other RTE competitors.
