Bug #15242
closedThe page can still be viewed if linked by its ID directly
0%
Description
When editing a page the following text is presented that has two errors:
"With this option the page will be hidden in navigation menus in the frontend. The page can still be viewed if linked by its ID directly"
1) "if linked by its ID" should read "if linked by its URL" in view of the fact that most people are running REALUrl these days. The ID is not always used.... whereas URL covers both.
2) There needs to be a period at the end of the second sentence, where one does not exist today.

Hi,
I fixed the spelling error in CVS (the dot at the end), but I didn't change the ID. Reason: If you link to a "not in menu" page, you usually do it by its id. For example - in the link tag you will write the ID, not the url for an internal link.

Hey Sebastian... wow you are fast! I don't mean to belabor the point here, but the phrase "The page can still be viewed if linked by its ID directly." is referring to what happens on the front-end, not the back-end. It is a note to describe what is still possible even if the not in menu option is chosen. I don't see how the link tag discussion is relevant for this particular note.
If you are worried about "URL" confusing people, then maybe revise the text entirely by displaying " The page can still be viewed in the frontend of the site"?
Thanks for your patience.

Hi Jason,
well, I think it like this:
"The page can still be viewed" [Frontend] "if linked by its ID directly." [Action in the backend]
So the action in the backend is setting a link to the other page - and you do this with the link tag (or special link fields) - and you enter the id in this link tag / the link fields.
Anyways, if others think as well that the current description is misleading, I'd of course change it.
So - any other comments as well?

Please leave it as it is. The ID is correct and should not change.

Hi,
I fixed the spelling error, but not the other thing after discussing it with Michael Stucki.
