Description

When you are in the EM and see the large list of the extensions, it would be nice to have a link to the corresponding wiki page of this extension. There the author can list a description and installation instructions, latest errors messages etc. for an extension.

I am against this. There are clear guidelines for writing documentation, and with the new documentation features offered by TER2 this is even more attractive.

Having the documentation this way means having all this in one go: * being able to render HTML, PDF, ... from OOo * online access through typo3.org * online access in the backend (through rlmp_extensiondocs) * docs can be packaged with extension
and probably more.

Now why would a wiki improve this?

Hello Karsten,

I do not mean that the wiki should replace any good documentation. However it would be nice, if the author of an extension can write only a short overview what an extension does and necessary hints. However there is not enough place in the EM online repository.

Will there be a possibility in TER2 that someone can click on the extension to get more information before he will download it? However a link to a wiki page created by other users than the author of an extension would be fine.

Regards,

Franz

That would be fine. Tell me how I can read the docs from the old online TER!

You are mixing up TER and EM, it seems. Anyway, the current EM displays an icon that goves access to the manual.sxw if it has been downloaded with the extensions. Additionally you can use Robert Lemkes Extension manual viewer (rlmp_extensiondocs) to view those in HTML in the BE.

I know that there is documentation after the download of an extension in the EM.
However when I am in the online repository view of the EM I want to get the infos about the extensions and also important installation hints there. I want to have this information with a quick link before I download anything and without searching around on TYPO3 homepages etc..

well i agree with Franz: the future of exts documentation will be the sum of all contributes..
i never use local docs, because the added value of users comments and hints to online docs is too important.

right now the online TER docs have several user comments (i don't know how it'll be in TER2)
and unluckily i seldom consult the wiki because there isn't a direct link to the interested pages

for me a simple link field wouldn't harm the TER
