Checkbox before input does not restore input

Description
This is a bug report and a feature request in one.
The bug
Certain input fields of type text have a checkbox in front of them that should allow users to
a) delete the content with one click
b) restore the content after it has been deleted via a)
Deleting works, restoring does not.
The feature request:
Currently the only way to get rid of those checkboxes is by unsetting it for every single field via modifying $TCA. This is a 'No Go!' for every T3 newbie.
Therefore let us have a Page TSConfig setting that disables all instances of this checkbox:
TCEFORMS.noCheckboxesBeforeInput = 1

Why do you request an option to hide the checkbox if you could also ask for the restore feature? It never occured to me that it should, but it's a great idea.
And also please do not file two issues in one report, it's hard to keep track (when may it be closed). To me you have two feature requests: 1. make clicking restore the old value and 2. have an option to hide all those checkboxes.

The issue is very old, does this issue exists in newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (4.5 or 6.1)?
