How it works now:
We have created a acronym, e.g. RTE/Rich Text Editor. If you mark "RTE" in htmlArea and click the acronym-button, the wizard shows a empty entry as selected. The user needs to choose "RTE" from the drop-down menu. Thats 4 clicks over all assigning the acronym.
How it should work:
After marking "RTE" and klicking the button, the wizard should show the entry "RTE" as selected. The user needs 2 klicks assigning the acronym, 50% "performance improvement" and less confused users :-D

This is now fixed in current trunk (for inclusion in TYPO3 4.4 RC2).
