RTE 'remove formatting' function corrupts typo3 links

Description
Using the text editor in any content element or record, if the 'remove formatting' function is used to remove 'html formatting' or 'Word formattig' from text that contains any links that have been previously added in the text editor, then the html for those links becomes corrupted.
Only affects links added in the RTE, external pasted from external sources in are not affected.
Seen in versions typo3_4.2.8/rtehtmlarea_1.7.11 and typo3_4.2.10/rtehtml_1.7.12

Please explain how to reproduce and/or in what way the links get corrupted. I am unable to reproduce this issue either with trunk or TYPO3 4.2.11
