Multiple recipients in mailform not possible any longer

Description

Apparently mail form now checks e-mail addresses for validity. This breaks having multiple addresses like ";". An error message appears:
Address in mailbox given [;] does not comply with RFC 2822, 3.6.2.
This is a regression as it worked in versions before 4.5.

You're not alone with this problem. I've tried:
email1,email2
email1;email2
[email1,email2]
nothing works

as this issue is very old. Does the problem still exists within newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (6.2.3)?
