A new install using 4.5.7. Install tool was unable to connect to mysql database so installation could not proceed. 1-2-3-wizard connected instantly and added $typo_db to the localconf.php, after which Install Tool behaved normally.

Hi Richard!
When you're installing a new TYPO3 site, the 1-2-3 wizard should show up automatically, guiding you through the installation.
Can you please elaborate in detail on what your problem is?

I'm closing this, as I don't think it is a bug, but more a problem on your system.
Could you please ask in the mailing list / news group typo3-english? I'm sure, somebody will help you figuring out the problem.
