With PHP 5.4, Suhosin is no longer supported.
I had to learn this the hard way: Install tool login did not work, no error message, always shows login form. Reason: $_POST was always empty.

There are some Suhosin Patches available for 5.4, but it looks like Suhosin is no longer developed.
I would recommend to change the Suhosin check:
  • if not installed: skip checks
  • if installed:
    • apply current checks
    • check for PHP version and warn if >= 5.4
