htmlArea leaving bookmarks in html-code

Description
This bahaviour occured in IE9.
- Mark some text in the editor and format it with underline (or bold, strikethrough,...)
- Now click on the formatted word and remove the attached format by clicking the underline-button again
- Now switch to HTML view and see the editor leaving span-tags (data-htmlarea-bookmark) in the code which remain in the code also after saving the modifications to the database

Regarding this behaviour editors may easily produce a lot of needless code without recognizing it.

I couldn't reproduce this behaviour on IE9. Anyone else has more luck?

does the problem still exists within newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (6.1.7)?
