Steps to reproduce:
- edit content with RTE-enabled field
- click icon "insert image"
- check "show thumbnails" in file list
- try to select an image - the files are not linked
- uncheck "show thumbnails" - file selection works again
(TYPO3 7.6.12)

I am not able to reproduce it on 7.6.16 at first glance.... could you check again? Or add more information about how to reproduce it?

In 7.6.16 it works for me too so this issue can be closed.
