While application/woff2 etc. was proposed at first, fonts got their own proper font/ mime type later.

The subtypes that would need changing in https://github.com/TYPO3/TYPO3.CMS/blob/master/typo3/sysext/install/Resources/Private/FolderStructureTemplateFiles/root-htaccess#L213 are:

AddType font/woff                     woff
AddType font/woff2                    woff2
AddType font/ttf                      ttc ttf
AddType font/otf                      otf
