Description

Ever since system/core extensions were removed from the repository, documentation on those extensions disappeared as well.

The only option is to search for .sxw files in the extension folders, but that requires that a separate tool (OpenOffice.org) be installed on the computer.

One could also use the rlmp_extensiondocs extension. However, this also may not be an option sometimes.

What about releasing documentation extensions?

doc_felogin
doc_dbal
doc_extbase

Creating own extensions for the documentation would have the disadvantage that you would have to download them seperately while the Extension Manager already provides the possibility of including manuals as doc/manual.sxw (which can then be viewed conveniently).

I suggest just to add the manual to the according extensions directly. That is also done already for a number of sysexts (e.g. felogin, linkvalidator and so on) and for me this seems to be a usable way of solving the problem.

Hi Alex,

thanks for pulling this issue up again!

The DocTeam is planning to move the manuals in the Core to ReST format. In the long run (not today and not tomorrow) it should be possible to view this documentation inside TYPO3 (without a special program). And we want to have it rendered on docs.typo3.org.

Christopher: So there is another issue and we can close this one?

We now have the ext:documentation in the backend again (since 6.2) so IMO this one is solved. docs.typo3.org is also running with the documentation. Close?
