Bug #15788
closedHorizontal and vertical scroll bars visible in vertical menu
0%
Description
New skin that comes with v4.0 beta 3 has horizontal and vertical scroll bars visible all the time in vertical menu of backend modules (Page, View, List, Info...).
Scroll bars shouldn't be visible.

John, if you are interested, this issue has been fixed in extension t3skin_improved:
http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/view/t3skin_improved/1.3.0/
http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals/t3skin_improved/current/view/
This is not the place to discuss it, you could use feedback form at typo3.org for that.

Can't seem to reproduce it, neither in IE 6 or FF2.
FF2: Horizontal scrollbar never appears in Main Menu.
IE 6: Horizontal scrollbar appears only if space is to small to display the menu items, because of Vertical scrollbar taking up to much space.

Both FF2 and IE6/7 have vertical scroll present. Cannot do much about that.
The problem is horizontal scroll. FF2 doesn't show it, but IE6/7 does. I suppose we should add couple of pixels to width of menu frame, when displaying in IE6/7.

No, this wouldn't fix the problem AFAIK -> the main menu takes up 99% of available space, which works great in FF, because it recognizes the appearing scrollbar as the horizontal space being reduced, thus still taking up 99% of horizontal space PLUS scrollbar.
The IE just puts the scrollbar over the 99% wide main menu item and adds the horizontal scrollbar, it doesn't recognize the reduced horizontal space.
Making the main menu items smaller is no option, because they wouldn't graphically fit with the topmenu and there would always be an empty space reserved for the vertical scrollbar which is just wasted as long as the scrollbar isn't there.
So personally I would file this bug under "IE flaw". The only medicine I can subscribe here is using the collapse function of the main menu and e.g. hide the tools section.
BTW.: The old skin behaves exactly the same way.

Have tested this again on
TYPO3-trunk (even newer then 4.1 rc1), t3skin 0.0.2, 1280x1024 screen resolution
FF 2.0.0.1, IE 7.0 (7.0.5730.11), IE6.0 have this problem - so both horizontal and vertical bars are present.
Only Opera (9.10) behaves correctly showing only vertical bar...

Which version of t3skin shall we test?
Updated by Thomas Murphy almost 18 years ago
Please test the last one, 0.0.2
I really can't reproduce this problem, since FF takes up 99% of the available space.
@Kirill : Which BE language do you use? Are there long, unwrapped words in there?
Do you use an alternative FF skin?

The mail function of the server was broken when I added the last note.
Any updates on the topic?

The mail function was really broken ...

English. No. No - I use default FF skin.
Btw, do you know any examples when FF skin can change layout of the page?
I have tried few different workstations to be sure - and received the same results everywhere ...
