Description
Under Web > Pages, the page tree is not expanded. One can press the plus/minus sign, it doesn't work at all. Never.
Just installed 4.2 RC2. Surprisingly, the Install > Upgrade wizard comes back with a blank page, as if nothing happened, and I always get the warning that my version of the DB is not set for that 4.2 RC but still for 4.1.6 !?
Tried on Firefox, latest french version on Mac OS X, and latest french version 2.0.0.13 on Windows.
My DB is in UTF8.

Oops - One only needs to update the databases and all the page tree works perfectly !
1. Go to the Install Tool->Database Analyser->Update required tables->COMPARE and IMPORT
2.That's it !
3. It seems that the "Update wizard" is not needed !?

Ran into the same issue and can confirm it. What I did was the following: Updated from 4.1.6 to 4.2 final. I ran the update wizard that changed several things.
After that, I couldn't access the page tree in the backend - was just empty all the time (list/page/info module).
The tip from above solved my issue: Go to Install Tool, run the db analyzer and let him update all needed things in the database.
What about adding that DB compare action to the update wizard? Or at least recommend to do that?

The issue itself is resolved, no change required.
Database compare is a documented TODO after a major TYPO3 update. Please open a separate issue for a possible installer improvement.
