I can confirm this issue with Safari 3.1.1 on Windows and according to a customer also with Safari 3.1.2 on Mac OS. The exact user agent for Safari 3.1.1 on Windows is: "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE) AppleWebKit/525.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Safari/525.1", just in case that is of any relevance here.

I don't think that the RTE in TYPO3 4.1 is supposed to work with Safari. You have to upgrade to 4.2. Warning: the RTE that comes shipped with 4.2 will not run on 4.1, so this is no easy way out for you.

safari (3.1.2 on macos) works fine with TYPO3 4.2.1

Support for Safari 3.0.4+ was introduced in TYPO3 4.2. The feature will not be implemented in TYPO3 4.1. The only way to use the feature is to upgrade to TYPO3 4.2.

Please report in the bugtracker any issue encountered in the use of the RTE with Safari 3.0.4+ on any platform when using TYPO3 4.2.
