Could not reproduce on TYPO3 4.3.1. Can you determine where any why this is redeclared?

I can also not reproduce this issue on Debian stable.

It comes down to a 'special PHP' compiled by http://www.byte.nl

They did some optimizations to avoid too much lstat() system calls.

Gives them a 40% system performance increase at the expense of losing some functionality.

Read: symlinks are broken in certain cases.

Currently working on a test case.
