This is a huge performance killer when cache is set/retreived to/from database.
Developers should have the ability to cache theses information to files or better, memcache.

TYPO3 Version changed from 4.5 to 4.6
Complexity set to medium

Sounds reasonable, over long-term, this cache should be dropped and the caching framework be used.

However, I fear it will not be possible for 4.6, if you don't provide a patch (Feature Freeze on Tuesday).
