The new extension manager does not automatically fetch the extension list. The scheduler job is meant for automatic updates.
There is link on the "last updated" message. This could be made more usable by moving the link to an "update now" button/link/icon.

OK my mistake.
It works. You have to click on the "last update" in the opper right corner.
But clicking on the "last update" isn't very self explaining.

For a brief moment you see a spinning icon, which fades and nothing seems to have happened. It would make sense if the list is refreshed automatically when the module is opened.
