The error can only be reproduced if you have this feature http://forge.typo3.org/issues/58013 checked out.
One gets displayed in the first step an error message.
If you want to edit the content you get this exception

Thanks for the bug report.
Can you please verify if this bug still exist in 6.2 or 7 ?
Can you also add more detailed instruction how to reproduce it?
