Currently, fluid_template cache uses the FileBackend which has a lot of added features that are not needed. Most damning aspect of the backend is that it will continually do multiple file_get_content() calls for every call to "requireOnce()" when the backend is not frozen - and freezing the backend prevents Fluid from operating.

Switching to SimpleFileBackend drastically reduces the number of calls to file_get_contents() because the "has()" method on that backend avoids this call and in general, uses the file_get_contents() method a lot less frequently.

We'll lose the option to freeze the Fluid backend unless manually configured to be frozen, but we gain a serious performance increase for every TYPO3 site out there.
