User Admin-->Lock to domain accepts http://
Added by Franz Holzinger almost 20 years ago.
Updated over 18 years ago.
Description
When I configure in the user admin settings for a user to be locked to a domain, I want that Typo3 accepts a domain name with its full URL:
e.g. http://typo3.com
It is annoying if it does not ignore the leading 'http://'.
"Lock to domain:"
"Enter the host name from which the user is forced to login."
(issue imported from #M706)
http is a protocol and not part of a domain name...
That's it (and not a bug) ;-)
I know that... I've read this thread!
But IMHO it's rather unnecessary work (and processor time)...
We should concentrate on bugs (and features!) that have real impact and not on some special super routines for someone who can't distinguish between protocol and domain name; No offence meant, but that's ridiculous... where's the difference between copying the whole URL or just the domain name? In three months we might get another feature request to remove everything after the domain name too to make it really comfortable (to overstate that, you know what I mean) ;-)
I do not think that this is ridiculous.
The computer software should make the life easier. Parameter checking is a common feature in good software.
So this makes sense.
I agree with Wolfgang, and yes, parameter checking makes sense but we cannot check for everything, and it's not really too much to ask the user to strip the unnessary stuff and comply to what is even described in the context sensitive help.
"it's not really too much to ask the user to strip the unnessary stuff and comply to what is even described in the context sensitive help."
The user likes nothing more than to read all documentation handbooks about Typo3 and Computer Science and to check all context sensitive help entries. He likes to explore all that stuff thoroughly. After he has read and learnt everything, he will start with his work. If he finds out, that something does not work, he restarts from the beginning with the reading of all his books to find the error.
Do you really think so?
Someone who creates BE users should be able to correctly understand the meaning of 'host name' and know that this is not the same as an URL.
Too much usability can lead to even more users not even wanting to learn things like this, and they are fundamental.
I close this feature request now, please discuss any open questions somewhere else (mailinglists, forum), thanks!
