The page tree should only load needed parts when the user expands/collapses branches of the tree.

Hi Thomas,
yes, there are! Stefan Regniet who attended the codespring worked on improving the CSS of the new pagetree and I think he'll soon attach some files to this bug.

The attached file contains the basis for the AJAX pagetree, Stefan Regniet's patches are based on it and clean up some things.
Ps.: This has been postponed to after 4.1, but Benjamin Mack said he was interested in developing it further, lets see what he comes up with.

This feature is in 4.1beta3 now, with some bugs still (see BT). 4.1 RC1 should fix all open bugs.
