Browser-specific: Poor tag handling + rogue " " everywhere in Opera
Added by James Knuckey about 17 years ago.
Updated about 6 years ago.
Description
It's driving me a bit batty trying to use the RTE in Opera. Tags are not being treated in a logical way - yet it's working fine in other browsers.
When I highlight a couple of paragraphs of text and click the indent button, only the first paragragh - sometimes only the first line - is put into blockquote tags.
Getting outside of the last tag in a block of text or end of a line seems to be nearly impossible - say, outside a link if that happens to be on the end of a line. If I click next to the link then hit enter for a new line, the link carries onto the following line.
When I put my cursor into the middle of a block of text and start typing, EVERY space is replaced with the character and lines stop wrapping properly.
In all 4 of these cases with Firefox (2.0.0.9) and IE (7) tag behaviour is fine. Only in Opera (9.24) do they work in this bizarre fashion.

Please see the manual: Opera is not officially supported. The RTE may be enabled in Opera only for experimenting and testing.
If you are interested in sponsoring efforts to make the RTE work correctly in Opera, let me know.
wow okay. Given that, it's not too bad! Apart from the bizarre tag handling and rogue space characters it works very well. Copy and paste work fine via shortcut keys.
I don't think my work will be interested in sponsoring it, IE an FF are the main browsers of choice. I'd love to sponsor personally, but I don't have the funds sorry!
Using TYPO3 4.2 beta1 and Opera 9.5 beta (but not 9.25), the first issue described above should be fixed.
The attached patch will raise the version requirement for the RTE to be enabled in Opera. Version 9.5 will be required. There are just too many bugs in earlier versions.
The patch was committed in SVN TYPO3core branch TYPO3_4-2 revision 3323.
9.5 is a beta version of Opera, not yet full release...
Yes. Just means that support of editable content is not yet fully released by Opera.
This issue is fixed in SVN trunk (TYPO3 4.3 alpha2) and Opera 9.5.
