We have an icon for "create new record" in the docheader.
This Icon behaves differently for the page- and list-module.- In page-module it will straight forward start the new-content-element wizrd
- In list-module it will start the general wizard to allow for creation of any record.
usability-wise this should be improved

I think you refer to the "Create new content element" icon (new_record.gif) in page module and the "Create new record" icon (new_el.gif) in list module.
Without loaded ext:t3_skin this is ok, the icons are different. But with loaded ext:t3_skin both icons are identical, so we should probably just change one of new_record.gif or new_el.gif in typo3/sysext/t3skin/icons/gfx/ .

The issue is very old, does this issue exists in newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (4.5 or 6.1)?
