Check/Update Reference Index does not show update message as flash message

Description
TYPO3 Backend:
DB check > Manage Reference Index > Update Reference Index
There are two buttons:
- check reference index
- update reference index
After clicking one of those buttons, a new section appear on the top of the page, showing the status of the last action (see Screenshot examples).
Use flash messages as in many other backend modules to show results of these "button actions".

Hi,
as this issue is very old. Does the problem still exists within newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (6.1.7)?

Yes, the issue still exists in current TYPO3 CMS versions. Confirmed with (6.1.7).
I do not have the time to provide a patch. Chris toper gave a hint on how this could be solved.
