Bug #23539
closedHide/show icon in BE inconsistent
0%
Description
With the new skin introduced in TYPO3 4.4, the hide and show icons behave differently from other icons they are grouped with. The other icons reflect what happens when you press them, i.e., edit a record, show the history, create a new record, delete the record. The hide and show icons, however, indicate the current state of the record. This is confusing for editors.
As for indicating the current state, that is already done by the record-specific icons.

Hi,
as this issue is very old. Does the problem still exists within newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (4.5 or 6.1)?

Yes, it's still the same. If a record is visible, the icon shows a glowing light bulb, even though you turn it OFF when you click on the icon.
Given that this behavior has been there for several years now, changing it again would probably cause quite some confusion. At least unless a different icon is introduced.

If a light bulb is on and I click on it, it turns off after clicking.
Do you have a combination where this doesn't happen?

No, this works as designed. The problem is the design itself.

I don't think that this will be changed as it is part of the UX design, but leave this open for now.

Felix, can I get your answer here?

In TYPO3 7 the icon is switched to a button similar to iOS. It is very learned by the users that this iOS-like button shows the current state. Changing this behavior would confuse the users much more than the glowing light bulb. So I suggest not to change anything and to close this issue. Also see attached screenshot.
