Rename elements in ce wizard

Description
Since T3 4.3 there are lots of options for configuring the content element wizard (http://buzz.typo3.org/people/steffen-kamper/article/the-new-content-element-wizard-in-version-43/). But there is no way to just overwrite some text for a wizard item that comes from a plugin. Neither plugin.tx_damdownloads_pi1._LOCAL_LANG.de.pi_title = new Text in the template setup nor templavoila.wizards.newContentElement.wizardItems.plugins.dam_downloads_pi1.title in user ts config did not work.

Hi,
as this issue is very old. Does the problem still exists within newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (6.2.7)?
